Amsterdam Nightlife
Clubbing In Amsterdam
Our hostel in Amsterdam is the perfect place to start any night out, not only do we have a great bar and club in the hostel but the surrounding area is full of the best clubs that Amsterdam has to offer.
Chemistry
Jan van Galenstraat 6-10 (422 25 05).
Chemistry has moved to a new location, and now every Saturday night the Marcanti Kingdom venue is transformed into the spectacular Chemistry, with performances by famous local DJ's and various international guests. Open Sat 11pm-5am.
Dansen Bij Jansen
Handboogstraat 11 (620 17 79).
The city's student club. Various music styles, although all on the safe side: disco, pop, house. Below is a small dance floor, with a quieter separate bar on the top floor. 'Student-only' means you need a valid student ID to get in. Jansen has a happy hour every night from 11pm-midnight. No dress restrictions.
Open daily 10pm-4/5am.
De Duivel
Reguliersdwarsstraat 87 (626 61 84).
Amsterdam's only hip-hop club, with rap and hip-hop beats and a crowd to match. Occasional live music on weekends.
Open Thu-Sat 8pm-3/4am.
Escape
Rembrandtplein 11 (622 11 11).
The Escape theater is one of the larger clubs in town with a capacity of well over 2,000. Most nights the venue is rented out to party organizers; Despite its size, expect to queue. The notoriously selective door policy seems to have relaxed a little.
Open Thu-Sun 11pm-4/5am.
Hotel Arena
Gravesandestraat 51 (850 24 00).
Like Paradiso, Panama and the Melkweg the multifunctional Hotel Arena hosts clubnights during the weekend, hosted by local and international DJ's. The club is situated in a beautiful church which is over 100 years old. The venue has largely been left in its original state, with the odd designer touch here and there, which creates a distinctive atmosphere in this popular and upmarket hangout.
Open Fri-Sat 11pm-4am.
Industry
Paardenstraat 17. (no phone)
Large split-level club in a small alley just off Rembrandt square. Music is mostly R&B, with the dance floor downstairs and the bar on the first floor.
Open Thu-Sun 11pm-4/5am.
Jimmy Woo
Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 18 (626 31 50).
Hot new club where ancient Hong-Kong mixes with modern design. Black is the dominant color here, with a large lounge area with black leather sofa's and a black bar, and the opium table is not missing of course. The dance floor is downstairs, with excellent lighting and sound system. Famous for its selective door policy; either you're on the guest list, or you join the endless queue hoping the door bitch will favour you.
Korsakoff
Lijnbaansgracht 161 (625 78 54).
Korsakoff combines a street level dance floor with a first floor bar. Alternative punk-rock and grunge sounds, and gathering place for Amsterdam's gothic scene. The bar has a balcony with a good view of the dance floor. Live music on Wednesdays.
Open daily 10pm-3am (4am weekends).
Magazijn
Warmoesstraat 170.
Easygoing unpretentious club, without door policy. Industrial retro interior with a laid-back atmosphere. Nice old leather couches to lounge on, cheap(ish) drinks, and soulful tunes mixed by local DJ's.
Mansion
Hobbemastraat 2 (616 66 64).
Trendy club-restaurant, with a dance floor downstairs, several cocktail bars on the first floor, and a restaurant on the top floor. The restaurant serves en vogue modern Chinese cuisine. The interior is a real power trip, with ostrich leather on the walls, ceiling paintings inspired by the Sistine Chapel, and some walls covered with actual gold leaf. It might be wise to dress up a little bit!
Open daily 6pm-1am (3am weekends).
