Events for January 2010

Rob Savage, Travel Writer

Here's a quick look ahead to what's on in Amsterdam in January 2010. No matter what you're into, we've got something to keep you entertained!

Bibliotheek Amsterdam

This is a great free attraction and one of Europe's largest libraries! It opened in 2007, was designed by Jo Coenen and there's a spectacular view from the cafe on the seventh floor. Expect Walnut floors, white walls, free Wi-Fi and a distinct lack of books!

Amsterdam Centrum voor Fotografie review

This is a great photo gallery within sniffing distance of the Red Light District. Inside you'll find a huge exhibition space, a selection of paintings and a fair few workshops, throughout the year. Head to number 39 on Amsterdam Centrum to find this one.

Dampkring Coffee Shop

This is our pick of the coffee shops for January 2010. The interior really is something else and it's enough in itself to take you on a trip! Expect moulded walls, sculpted ceilings, a crazy array of weirdly wonderful wooden panelling and constant big screen reminders, that Ocean's 12 shot a scene here!

Amsterdam Marionetten Theatre

This is kind of like Avenue Q but Dutch! This production features puppets decked out in the finest velvet, singing along to operas by Mozart and Offenbach. It's a very old European tradition with a very fresh, local spin to it.
