Amsterdam International Fashion Week 2011

The Amsterdam International Fashion week is organised twice a year. It's the podium for young and talented designers, it's unlike any other fashion week and the catwalks are spread out over the entire city instead of just one area. There will also be a focus on other activities besides a simple show of fashion so expect lectures, exhibitions and of course, parties! Fashion week runs from January 26 to January 30, 2010.

A'DAM, Man and Fashion

Until January 30, 2011 the Amsterdam Historic Museum will host the exhibition A'DAM, Man and Fashion. The focus will be clothes throughout the ages without forgetting the many modern threads. All the main items from a man's wardrobe will be highlighted including suits, shoes, underwear, hats and ties, but everything will be shown in a playful way. Next to the outfits films and interviews will give an insight into the dressing habits of the modern Amsterdam man.

Goed Verstopt (well hidden)

The Museum of bags and purses will show you everything about the secrets of a bag. The exhibition will open purses that are normally only seen closed behind a glass display and the contents will tell you stories about the daily lives of women - from the end of the 19th century, up to today. The accessories contained within tell many a tale about the changing times and social standards. Expect fans, wallets, sowing kits, pillboxes, cell phones, iPods and a few surprises.

Fashion Factory

The 30th edition of the fashion factory will take place on January 23 and 24, 2010. Over 600 labels will present their newest fall and winter 2011/2012 collections. In this anniversary edition there will be an extra focus on high-end fashion along with Department Store favourites, limited denim designs and fashion classics.

Love During Wartime

During times of hardship love is intensified and The Second World War influenced the love lives of a whole generation. They fell in love in emergency shelters, trenches, and even concentration camps. Love During Wartime showcases this and how drawn out companionship in bomb shelters or the even ranks of the resistance, could inspire love. Love kept many people going during wartime and with so many men so far away from home, prostitution also blossomed, as did a good number of affairs. Many woman were attracted by the man in uniform, approximately 8000 Dutch woman had a child by their rescuer and some even got pregnant by German soldiers. Love During Wartime is therefore less than a conventional exhibition and one that makes your heart beat faster.
