Events for July 2008

London might outnumber Amsterdam when it comes to music festivals in July, but the city of sin is nonetheless giving the British capital a run for its money. Here are some of the best gigs – not to be missed.

Five Days Off Festival - July 2 to July 6, 2008

Every year talented musicians assemble in Amsterdam and start stringing out their finest tunes during the first week of July. Expect a fair share of club anthems and live performances. Head to Paradiso, Melkweg, Nederlands Instituut voor de Mediakunst and the Heineken Music Hall to experience the magic.

An all events pass will cost you €50, tickets for individual performances are individually priced and there will be a free concert on the Leidseplein at some point. The details of this however haven't been announced so keep your eyes peeled. You can but tickets online or at Melkweg.

Werfpop - July 13, 2008

Technically this is a twenty minute train ride out of Amsterdam but our moles on the ground inform me that it's well worth it. Aside from the train fair, this event is free and it just happens to be the largest popular music festival in the area! Expect well known acts and rising pop stars. Ask your St Christopher's receptionist for train journey tips.

The Dandy Warhols - July 14, 2008

Beyond - Bohemian Like You, this band hasn't really stormed up the charts. In fact they're probably destined to be confined to the mini club circuit for the remainder of their musical career. They are however quite entertaining and tickets aren't too pricey so if you've got the time on July 14, head to the Melkweg and have a listen.
