Season 40 to 45 Football During Wartime ‐ The Dutch Resistance Museum
During World War Two football was more popular than ever in the Netherlands. Thousands and thousands joined clubs at a time when the sport offered a much needed escape from the horrors of war. But even football was controlled by the German occupiers. Jews were not allowed to join football clubs and many Jewish players were transported to work camps in Germany, or went into hiding. The rationing also made it difficult to get gear and balls, but you can see all this and more in this great exhibit. Football during wartime tells both a sad and exciting story about the game during the occupation.
The Search for Life ‐ Science Centre Nemo
Will you ever see a stone running away? Can E.T. really phone home? How did life begin billions of years ago? What do humans have in common with jellyfish? The Search for Life exhibition takes you on a fascinating voyage of discovery with answers to many of these questions and more! Videos, games and experiments make the mystery of life exciting and accessible, and the best thing is that you get to try everything out for yourself!
Depreciated by Cory Arcangel ‐ The Netherlands Media Art Institute
Cory Arcangel is an artist best known for his manipulation of 8‐bit game cartridges ‐ like Super Mario Bros. He hacked into the videogame and removed everything but the pixelated, slow moving clouds. This is set to be on display at the Art Institute along with his latest work ‐ Drie Klavierstucke Op 11. This was originally a piano piece written by Austrian Composer Arnold Schoenberg back in 1909, however for the exhibit it’s been reproduced via Youtube clips of cats walking on pianos! Expect to see other past experiments and artworks too.
Made in Britain ‐ Museum of Bags and Purses
Are you a fashion victim? Do you love British designers like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney? Are you never found out without your designer bag? If your answer was yes to all three questions than be sure to visit the Museum of Bags and Purses. Besides the brands from their own collection, the museum has an exhibition of bags from recent shows including all the big British names. England has a long history in the field of fashion, textiles and design and this is expertly showcased in the exhibit, and many of the designs you see bobbing along the high street! Characteristic trademarks include the attention to craftsmanship and quality, but equally there’s a quest for innovation to be seen too.
The Amsterdam Dance Event ‐ October 21 to 24, 2009
After a day of video art, designer bags and exploring life, you might want to go out and dance the night away and there’s no better place to do it than the Amsterdam Dance Event. The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the Gateway to the international, electronic music scene. The ADE is also Europe’s leading electronic music conference and the world's biggest club festival! During the ADE music lovers can enjoy the world's most famous performers, including Groove Armada, Dave Clarke and Armin van Buuren ‐ for four whole days. Enjoy!
