Beauty Terrorist - Dermatology With Dermalogica

In the not too distant past I was lucky enough to stop over in the dessert bubble that people call Dubai. This involved a friend's couch, an entertaining array of pork vending back rooms (hidden by heavy black curtains), a stupidly affordable luxurious lifestyle and a climate induced spot attack. Needless to say – the mountains erupting on my face brought out the Beauty Terrorist in me and together, we came up with this counter attack.

The Best For Less

Life in the United Arab Emirates is (heavenly choir sings) tax free. This explains why eighty percent of the city's population is European, American, Australian and New Zealand (en?). But it didn't explain why everyone had absolutely perfect skin and why my normally clear complexion was entering itself in a competition for the best pizza look-a-like, while simultaneously going for gold in the most disastrous chemical peel Olympics.

Spurned on by the threat of indestructible digital photos and the dreaded curse of: “You have been tagged in 17,000 horrifically ugly photos on Facebook”, I went undercover in several bathrooms. As seedy as that might sound, the secret I uncovered was constant and didn't involve stripping my outer epidermis away with acid.

Climate Control

beauty-terrorist-climateThe product on every shelf was Dermalogica – the internationally renowned, unisex brand that until now I had avoided because of the presumably pricey - price tag. As it turns out the products aren't in fact financially crippling so I started out by borrowing my best buddy's Climate Control.

On the side of the packet I scan read the following: "Therapeutic balm which helps heal acutely damaged facial skin whilst providing a protective shield against further climatic assaults."

I was sold. After a rather therapeutic session of targeting my trouble spots I read that this product was great for complexions that suffer from extensive air travel. It also helps to deal with pollution, temperature extremes, irritating cosmetic products, harsh detergent, chemical exposure, stress, poor diet and hormonal factors. My lifestyle ticks every box and I am now firmly hooked on the stuff.

Precleanse

beauty-terrorist-precleanseOn my return to the UK things still weren't quite peachy so it was time to take it up a notch. I've been a fan of Clearasil ever since I stepped over the puberty threshold and my hormones introduced blackheads and great honking spots to my face. Unfortunately this doesn't cut it anymore so I started to enquire about the next generation of face cleansers.

Precleanse works on the basis that even when you wash your face, it's not completely clean. In a nutshell the oils, sun screen, make up and various other products that we assault our faces with on a daily basis don't disappear with just one wash. The residue they leave behind clogs pores so before you cleanse you need to get rid of them.

Precleanse does exactly this by attaching itself to pollutants when you put it on your dry face. You then add water, watch it foam and rinse it away. This feels a little harsh and heavy at first but when you use it as part of a Dermalogica routine, it really does pay off.

Special Cleansing Gel

beauty-terrorist-cleansingThis very routine brings us to our final product and the last nail in the coffin of my bad skin. Step up Special Cleansing Gel, which crucially is soap free. From past Beauty Terrorist escapades we know that healthy skin has a healthy PH balance. Soap disturbs this so washing with this product, after eliminating all that oil, enhances the skin's natural moisture balance.

There are no artificial fragrances or colours and according to the blurb: "natural Quillaja Saponaria gently foams away toxins and debris."
More to the point it works and even when the occasional spot does break through, it disappears in half the time it normally takes – thanks to this bad boy.

Dermalogica products are only available in appointed skin care centres on the recommendation of a qualified skin care therapist. For stockist details call 0800 591818 or visit www.dermalogica.co.uk

Also if you're staying in one of our West London bases be sure to pop into the Kensington store for a little bit of pampering.
