Stay Slim With Super Foods ‐ February 2009
If, like everyone else who’s human, you put on a few extra pounds over the festive period ‐ you don’t have to panic and you certainly don’t have to resort to extreme work outs. Simply start your health drive by changing the fuel you put into your body. You’ll be amazed at how much money you’ll save by cutting out addictive food ‐ ladled with MSG, and how much healthier you’ll be when you replace this junk with Super Foods. The Super Food tag is attached to food types that are high in antioxidants like vitamin C. These munchies also commonly pack a Flavanoid (super‐antioxidant) punch. Flavanoids are what give fruits for example, a deep colour, so the brighter the blue of your Blueberry, the better it is for you. These antioxidants are important because they combat free radicals which are harmful molecules ‐ capable of damaging you cells, prematurely aging you and causing heart disease. They’re even linked to cancer, so incorporating this combative food into your diet is not only good calorie control but also very beneficial for your long term health. Just so you know, the top Super Foods include Blueberries, Beetroot, Pomegranite, Watercress, Avocados, Mangoes and Goji Berries.
Damaged Hair ‐ April 2009
It’s never been proven that running around with wet hair causes illness (unless you’re in the artic and it’s a loss of body heat deal) but it has been proven that leaving long hair to dry naturally causes split ends. On the flip side if you use a hair dryer too often the intense heat causes the hair to become singed and yes, that’s right, you get split ends this way too. So what do you do if you can’t go natural or plug in a hair heater? Well the trick is to work out a formula that works for your hair. For example, if it’s naturally glossy then towel dry your hair for the most part and finish it off with a short blast on the hair dryer. If like so many others you have a little frizz issue then again towel dry most of the moisture and then comb a serum in, allowing your hair to dry while absorbing said nourishment.
Dried Out Winter Skin ‐ October 2009
Flaky, dry and cracked skin in the winter is caused by dehydration brought about by artificial heating drying the air around you, leeching the moisture from your body n the process. Combating this is simple. Merely turn the temperature down a notch, crack a window on occasion ‐ to let in a little moisture from outside and put a tiny bowl of water underneath the radiator that you spend most of your time around. Too much and you’ll encourage mould but just enough and the radiator will draw the water from the bowl, and not from you. Also keep yourself hydrated from the inside and it’ll shine through.
Money Saving Beauty Tips ‐ December 2009
Toner Tips: If you’re running low on toner and don’t want to buy a big old, expensive bottle then simply mix a tablespoon of vinegar with eight ounces of water. It sounds rank but it actually works on your skin and shuts your gaping pores, after you wash them out!
Longer Lasting Lipstick: If you’re a lady who loves her lipstick and her lip gloss, then make it go further by always applying it with a lip brush! I don’t care what container it comes in or what brand you’re using. If you want it last longer, eliminate the need for blotting by adopting this simple technique.
Hair Hugging Hairspray: Make your own hairspray, and no I’m not talking about producing your own musical and singing into your hairbrush in the dorm room. Simply mix two tablespoons of sugar into a 12 ounce spray bottle of water. It actually works, there’s no nasty smell and there’s no alcohol involved ‐ so it won’t make your hair dry. The more sugar you put in it, the firmer the hold. Just be careful about applying too much in the summer when the bees come out to play!
