A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakimi

A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakimi

Murakami has been labelled as one of the world’s greatest living novelists and offerings such as A Wild Sheep Chase go a long way towards explaining why. This tale is one that revolves, shockingly enough, around a sheep. It is however a very special sheep with a star shaped patch of dark fur on its back. Said sheep might also possess unimaginable powers and be in charge of the world as we know it. Murakami therefore takes us on a quest to find it in a plot that is part Poirot, part slap stick and part crazy. There’s even a cat with flatulence problems involved and a woman with magical ears ‐ so a great read all round!

A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakimi is published by Random House (paperback; £8.99). It is also available through amazon.com and all good booksellers.

Donkeys On My Doorstep by Anna Nicholas

Donkeys On My Doorstep by Anna Nicholas

That’s right readers ‐ she’s back and this time she’s not too bothered with a lizard in her luggage or a cat on a hot tin roof ‐ but rather a donkey on her doorstep. In this instalment of how to go about transforming a high pressured life on the London PR scene into something simpler and more meaningful in Mallorca, Anna once again manages to make me want to give up my life in London and set up shop on a Spanish island. Some of the more memorable episodes in this one include an unlikely friendship with an eldery Mallorcan poet and a Mad Hatter’s tea party. In summary it’s charming and thoughtfully written, so go out and buy it immediately if not sooner.

Donkeys On My Doorstep by Anna Nicholas is published by Summersdale (paperback; £8.99). It is also available through amazon.com and all good booksellers.

Paw Tracks in the Moonlight by Dennis O’Connor

Paw Tracks in the Moonlight by Dennis O’Connor

Take a well known psychologist and all the knowledge you’d ever need to pull at the heartstrings of the population at large. Add a true life tale of a wild kitten, surviving against‐the‐odds (with the help of said psychologist) after its heavily pregnant mother is caught in a trap and bleeds to death. Now expand that tale to cover more than a decade of man and cat living happily together and you have an idea of what to expect from Paw Tracks in the Moonlight. It’s a disarming and moving tale that should come with the warning: “Do not read on the London Underground if you’re concerned about showing emotion in public.” Readers should definitely be aware that this title posses the Marley and Me effect, and then some.

Paw Tracks in the Moonlight by Dennis O’Connor is published by the Coon Cat Books (paperback; £7.99). It is also available through amazon.com and all good booksellers.

Walking on the Amalfi CoastA Cicerone Guide

Walking on the Amalfi Coast ‐ A Cicerone Guide

The Amalfi Coast is all about good food, great wine and long gone volcanic activity. This guide however disagrees and in the long tradition of thoroughness from Cicerone, argues that it’s all this, and more! Also in keeping with the Cicerone style this badger throws an enormous number of walking routes at you, along with a plethora of insider tips, the best way to go about planning any itinerary in the area and much, much more. I for one can honestly say that I wish this book was around when I was in the area, a few years back.

Walking on the Amalfi CoastA Cicerone Guide is published by the Cicerone (paperback; £12.95). It is also available through amazon.com and all good booksellers.
