The Top Ten Insider Tips For Prague
We’re very excited about opening our brand new hostel and hotel in one of the best cities in the world ‐ so we thought we’d get you excited too by helping you plan, execute and enjoy a trip to Prague. So without further ado, here are our top ten pointers when it comes to getting the most out of the capital ‐ of the Czech Republic!
1. Seeing a Show
If a show or concert is worth seeing in Prague, then the chances are that you’ll be able to get tickets for it through the Ticketpro offices. These are an equivalent, of sorts, to the box office attached to the 02 Entertainment arenas in countries like the UK and Germany.
2. What’s going on when I’m in town?
Well I’m glad you asked because we have a monthly events forecaster based in Prague who dedicates herself to researching and reporting the best upcoming concerts, theatrical performances, festivals and everything worth going to. She’s called Kristýna and you can read her free column, right here.
3. Where can I go to find a friendly face if I’m travelling alone?
We’ve staffed our newest backpacker base with the best travellers from the St Christopher’s Inns across Europe and the many friendly faces from the Sir Toby’s hostel group. We’ve also positioned ourselves at the very centre of the expat universe ‐ in Prague at least. In other words ‐ most of the people who work here are from somewhere else and they’re more than ready to strike up a friendly conversation.
4. Can I make my trip to the city more environmentally friendly?
Erm yes! You can accomplish this by simply staying at Mosaic House. We’re the only guys in the whole of the Czech Republic who use grey water recycling technology with heat recuperating super powers, there are solar panels galore on the roof and everything on the inside is recycled ‐ including the tree branch ‐ clothes rails.
5. What if (heaven forbid) something bad happens and I need a Doctor or a hospital?
If you’re at Mosaic House just scream and we’ll take care of everything ‐ whether it’s a trip to the hospital or an appointment with a doctor. If you’re out and about then call 112 for all emergencies or specifically ‐ 155 for an ambulance, 158 for the police and 150 for the fire brigade. The main hospital in Prague is Nemocnice Na Homolce ‐ Roentgenova 2, Motol (you can get there on bus 167, departing from the Andĕl metro station) and pharmacies are called lékárna. The most central pharmacy ‐ open 24 hours a day ‐ is Palackého 5, Nové Mĕsto.
6. What’s the best way of getting in and out of Prague ‐ from the airport?
That’s easy. All you have to do is follow the simple instructions on our website ‐ right here ‐ or book a spot on our environmentally friendly shuttle bus ‐ also on our website. Said shuttle is powered by the old cooking oil collected from the Belushi’s restaurant and bar, attached to Mosaic House.
7. How can I stay in touch with home from Prague ‐ without having to deal with expensive overseas charges on my cell phone?
Just like any other big trip, the cheapest way to call home is by using a pre‐paid phone card. In Czech they’re called telefonní karty ‐ and you can pick them up from most tourist offices, and large grocery stores.
8. Where do I start if I want to give the local language a go?
Well hello is ahoj, how are you is jak se máte and how do you say that in Czech is jak se tohle řekne česky? Put them all together and away you go!
9. Where can I get a money saving, transport pass from?
Reception at Mosaic House! You can buy or rent them from here. Simple!
10. What’s the best watering hole in town?
We’re biased of course (because it’s part of the same building) but you can’t beat Belushi’s for a good dose of backpacker hospitality, expat vibes and a drinks menu with the best mix of international beers, cocktails and mocktails!
