Story Highlights
- Pyronale
- Whisky Autumn
- Kreuzberg Festival Days
- Ben Hur
Pyronale
This is taking place at the Maifeld, Olympic Stadium on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 7pm and on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 6pm. In a nutshell Pyronale celebrates everything to do with fireworks making it a great outing for all the pyromaniacs in the crowd! This however is no average fireworks display. The event actually pits an international array of expert firework teams against each other and this year there are six teams being judged for originality, coordination with the music and presentation. Tickets start at 18 each and to get to the event you simply head to the OlympiaStadion stations on the S-Bahn or the U-Bahn.
Whisky Autumn
Also on September 5, 2008 (2Ĵpm to 11pm) and September 6, 2008 (12pm 11pm) is Whisky Autumn! It costs 8 to get in and when you're inside you'll find seminars, live music and whisky samples for all attendees. Numbers are however limited so make sure you're hooked up with tickets before you head out.
Kreuzberg Festival Days
Finally a free event! Kreuzberg is the funky, bohemian and free-spirited district of Berlin, and it knows how to send off the summer season with a bang! From the end of August through to September 14, 2008, street fairs, entertainment, sports and more makes sure there's something for everyone who stops by.
Kreuzberg is also the oldest Turkish neighbourhood in the city - which if I'm not mistaken, means one of the best treats in town will be plentiful so keep your eyes peeled for Doner Kebabs. These are particularly awesome and stand as one of my favourite excuses - for snacking in Berlin! The events take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday - between 3pm and 11pm, on Wednesday and Sunday they happen between 2pm and 11pm, and on Friday and Saturday it's between 3pm and 12am.
Ben Hur
Sometimes events come along that are just so bizarre - I have to include them. Even if it is against my own better judgment. If perhaps you ventured to Berlin by complete mistake and meant to go to Rome (better yet ancient Rome) then this event is for you. It's held on September 21, 2008 and from 12.30pm onwards you can enjoy The Great Chariot Race The Legend of Ben Hur, at the Karlshorst Arena. It's an annual activity and there are many events centred around ancient Roman good times. Highlights include spear throwing (yay), gladiators fixed in combat and of course a chariot race - to top it all off. Thirty chariots and 150 horses thundering around a track is quite a sight to see.
