Travelling to Bruges

Getting Here

Conveniently located in the middle of the London, Paris and Amsterdam triangle, Bruges is one of the easiest of European small-cities to reach. Here we tell you how.

By Air

Belgium has 3 international Airports, in Brussels, Antwerp and Ostend. The majority of over-seas flights are going to travel to Zaventem Airport in the capital city of Brussels. From here you’ve got a 90-minute train journey to complete.

From England and from within Europe your best bet is the Ostend Airport which is only a 20-min bus journey from where you want to be. RyanAir (www.ryanair.com) has just introduced a new direct flight to Bruges on their extensive list of options. The fastest and cheapest way to fly to this beautiful little city.

By Train

For pure comfort when you travel there’s nothing better than the Eurostar, www.eurostar.com, with a direct link between London and Brussels, your Eurostar ticket can be used on national trains to complete your journey. The Thalys, www.thayls.com, make connect to Amsterdam and Paris. The best bet for finding train schedules and prices use the Rail Europe website at www.raileurope.com.

By Bus

Getting to Belgium by bus is generally going to be on Eurolines, www.eurolines.com, the international umbrella company that operates the majority of coachlines. Once inside Belgium, there are two different kinds of tickets for you to choose from: a Line Card (De Lijnkaart), which is used for trips outside the city and the City Card (De Stadskaart), which is used for trips only inside the city where you bought them. The Bus is the cheapest option, by far, for touring around the densely packed country.

By Sea

You can reach Bruges by ferry from South England or Amsterdam both of which will take you directly to Zeebrugge. Port in Bruges. There are plenty of companies to choose from, including: P&O Ferries, www.poferries.com, and  EuroTunnel, www.eurotunnel.com.
