March 2007-Hot Hostel

Greenwich

Story Highlights:

 - Live Acoustic Jams
 - Saturday Night DJs
 - Greenwich Playhouse
 - Myspace Party

This month we escape the grime and grind of London city centre with a ten minute train ride to Greenwich.

What’s On

This hostel is stone’s throw away from the station and inside you’ll find entertainment worth leaving Zone One for.

On Sundays you can join the growing contingent of fans flocking to hear the acoustic stylings of Dan and Ben.

Friday’s child is served cocktails with DJ Darren and Saturdays say no to RnB with DJ Whitty.

VIP backpackers get a discount on beds and all hostellers get one behind the bar. Corona is always two for one, house spirits and mixers are a tantalising £1.50 on Thursdays and you grab two meals for £10, 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday.

On March 7th Greenwich is mixing up a special cocktail of party people and Myspace. To celebrate the arrival of Greenwich on the Myspace map there’s going to be a big party and any backpackers who want to stay on afterwards will get 10 % off a bed.

Greenwich Playhouse

The Playhouse - GreenwichOur hostel is also home to Greenwich Playhouse. Walk up one flight of stairs and lose yourself in a different world, created by the Galleon Theatre Company.

This month you can see Thankfully There Is Moonlight. This wonderful play was adapted, translated and produced by Alice de Sousa who also stars in the production.

Originally written in 1961 by Sttau Monteiro, the play is based on entirely true events of brutal political repression, crippling poverty and undying love.

Only at Greenwich can you can see this powerful and highly relevant piece of theatre, directed by Bruce Jamieson. It was a hard fight to get this on the stage under the fascist regime in Portugal and this is the first time audiences can enjoy such an important, historical and educational snap shot of oppression, in English.

Go and see this play if for no other reason than to experience the passion of De Sousa. The other actors abound with talent but you are easily lost in the fire that got Monteriro through the 20th century concentration camps and the drive De Sousa uses to bring you this play.

The play is only on until March 11, 2007 so hurry. Tickets are £11 or £9 with concessions. Hostellers do of course get in for £9!
