London Events for May 2008

Kalon HuettHalf the competitors - double the excitement. That's the premise of sevens rugby. Basically all the dull parts of the proper 15-a-side game are taken away, like endless penalties, strange rule interpretations and the ball disappearing beneath a human pyramid for minutes on end! What remains is a free-flowing, fast-paced spectacle with only seven players on each team, thereby ensuring constant action! The referee is more likely to blow his whistle from the sheer excitement of it all – rather than to award a penalty to either side!

The London Rugby Sevens Tournament

Even if you couldn't distinguish between a Rugby Union match and an attempt at the world record for most number of bodies piled on top of each other, the Emirates Airline London Rugby Sevens tournament could convert you into an instant fan.

This conversion won't be based solely on field thrills. It's held at Twickenham - a glorious stadium and the home of English Rugby. Spectators have a chance to appreciate this renowned venue for a fraction of the usual cost, in fact adult tickets are just £10 for the entire Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, 2008). This weekend includes 44 matches and a variety of interactive entertainment and competitions for the crowd. Notably this includes fancy dress!

Something For Everyone

Travellers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Canada, Spain, Wales and more will be able to cheer for their nation. Not only this but you'll be able to experience the genuine British tradition of watching England lose at a sport they invented!

Tickets

Tickets can be ordered through Ticketmaster or via the official RFU website. With a host of the world's best players on display, this is the perfect opportunity to experience a taste of what is often referred to as: “The game they play in Heaven.” Although personally I've always found it easier to picture a nice afternoon game of cards taking place in the afterlife - than everyone rolling around in the mud and occasionally stomping on each others' heads with spiked boots. Oh and don't be alarmed by this image if you're a rugby rookie. Stomping does occur, but it is not part of the interactive entertainment previously mentioned!
