Events for August 2008

Though the sun and sand may be hot, the beaches in Newquay are definitely the coolest places to be in August. There's a little something for everyone this month as one of the best, international sports competitions comes to Newquay - along with the famous Newquay Summer Carnival!

Newquay Carnival: August 3, 2008

Join in the fun as locals and visitors alike participate in this annual float and fancy dress parade. Starting at Tregunnel Car Park at 7pm, the whole pack parades through Newquay's town centre. If you're interested in getting involved with a float or fancy dress, be sure to be at Tregunnel Car Park at 6:15pm.

Rip Curl Boardmasters 2008: August 4 to August 10, 2008

The Rip Curl Boardmasters is the UK's premier action sports festival and it returns to Newquay's world famous Fistral Beach for its 27th Anniversary on August 4, 2008. The event will include a whole week of surfing, skating, BMX(ing), freestyle motocross (FMX), bikini competitions, Barbies and DJ sessions - making the Rip Curl Boardmasters a 24/7 party. There's also the Unleashed Music Festival being blasted out on every day of the sports event. Beach Sessions can be found on Fistral Beach - showcasing local and international musicians. Tickets are £12.50 per night.

Madagascan Nights: August 6 to August 27, 2008

If you're looking for a family friendly event or just something a little different, head over to the Newquay Zoo where you can get involved in some special animal encounters, talks and games - all based around the Madagascan animals in the Zoo. In the evening you can also enjoy a barbecue in the sun drenched, tropical lakeside gardens.
