In Newquay the warm and halcyon days of August are chockfull of activity. Surfing and jazz festivals, bikini competitions, live theatre, adventure parks, and many other fun happenings are bound to make your summer hotter. Here’s a summary of the summery events coming up in Newquay.

Relentless Boardmasters Beach Sessions ‐ August 4 to 10, 2010

Returning to Fistral Beach for another year, the Relentless Boardmasters Beach Sessions will serve up some fierce surfing, freestyle motocross, skating, longboarding, and a publicly available skate ramp. There also will be live music at Watergate Bay on August 6 and 7. If you attend, you might want to stick around for the bikini competition which takes place on August 8. Since this is a festival, so you are encouraged to get your tickets sooner rather than later.

The Pendennis Cup 2010 ‐ August 9 to 14, 2010

If watching yacht races tickles your fancy, then you’ll surely want to be in attendance at this year’s Pendennis Cup. This five‐day program will feature many facets of yachting and many, many enthusiasts. Come and see all the aspects that go into making these marvelous boats tick, from their owners to those who navigate them through the choppiest of waters during competitions. The Pendennis Cup takes place at the Port of Falmouth, which is 41 km south of Newquay.

St Laurence’s Day at Cornwall’s Crealy ‐ August 10, 2010

Cornwall’s Crealy Adventure Park attracts all kinds during the summer months, and August 10 is St Laurence’s Day. How better to spend the day than going to Cornwall’s Crealy? Only on August 10, all visitors whose names are Laurence will be admitted for free (with valid proof of ID of course). Since Crealy is open from 10.00 until 18.00 daily, you may wish to go along on other days as well. Cornwall’s Crealy Adventure Park is 23km northeast of Newquay.

Checkout Girls at the Lane Theatre ‐ August 10 to October 13, 2010

Louis Roche’s Checkout Girls will be at Newquay’s Lane Theatre starting on August 10, 2010. This play is a part of Lane Theatre’s Summer Season of Mystery and Music. Checkout Girls is a musical play that is bound to entertain you. The performances are on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and curtain up is at 20.15. For advanced bookings call 0044 (0)1637 876945.

Bude Jazz Festival ‐ August 28 to September 3, 2010

If you get jazzed over jazz music, then naturally, you should head to Bude for the 2010 Bude Jazz Festival. This is the 23rd annual jazz festival to come to Bude and this year has a great lineup of jazz acts. The program for each day includes a morning, lunchtime, afternoon, early evening and evening session of jazz bands, and acts that cover the vast array of jazz genres and subgenres. Bude is 70km northeast of Newquay.

Quicksilver Skins Event ‐ August 28 to 29, 2010

Fistral Beach becomes alive on the August Bank Holiday with the Quicksilver Skins contest. Surfers and spectators will witness eight of the British Isles’ most pre‐eminent surf shops sparring for the opportunity to compete in the brag‐worthy Quicksilver Pro France. The Quicksilver Pro France competition is a part of the Association of Surfing Professionals world tour. Surf’s up!
