It’s time to jump feet first into summer in Newquay and August has several events that are bound to encourage that! From checking out the beaches to a night at the theatre, Newquay has it all this month so make a splash - the water’s perfect!

Early Bird Breakfast at Newquay Zoo - August 6 and 21, 2011

Who in their right mind does not enjoy a good, hearty breakfast? To answer this rhetorical question - nobody! Keeping that in mind, come down to the Newquay Zoo for the Early Bird Breakfast. Newquay Zoo is hosting a breakfast courtesy of Café Lemur, and a tour. An all-day admission is included in the ticket price. Tickets cost £14.95 for and the event runs from 07.00 until 09.00!

Painting Taster Session at Griffin Inn - August 6, 2011

Newquay Society of the Arts is hosting an event that will bring out the inner Picasso or Monet in you. Painting Taster Session will give you the opportunity to have hands-on contact with various painting media such as oils, acrylics, and water-colours. Painting Taster Session begins at 10.00 and lasts until 16.00 - at Griffin Inn.

St Newlyn East Wartime Weekend - August 6 and 7, 2011

f World War Two reenactments float your boat, then come on down to St Newlyn East Wartime Weekend and expect a parade that pays homage to the 1940s, and postwar era. On Saturday night at 19.30 there will be a throwback dance where you can party like it’s 1945! The admission cost is £2 and the venue is Newlyn East.

It Could Be Any One of Us at Lane Theatre - August 9 to October 12, 2011

Newquay’s Lane Theatre is kicking off their new production of It Could Be Any One of Us on August 9, 2011. From then the play will run every Tuesday and Wednesday until mid-October. The show begins at 19.00 and tickets can either be purchased in advance or at the box office on the day of the performance. To buy tickets by phone call +44 (0)1637 876945. The play is by Alan Aychbourn and directed by Peter Choat, so it should be a real treat.

Relentless Boardmasters 2011 - August 10 to 14, 2011

One of the UK’s preeminent sport festivals, the Relentless Boardmasters is back for another year of surfing, BMX bikes, and skating. This festival is on both of Newquay’s most prominent beaches - Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay. Fistral Beach Bar opens at 19.30 with live music until midnight. Watergate Bay is the spot for the Saturday night music festival - for which you’ll need to purchase tickets, so make like a library book and check it out!

Newquay Lions Sandcastle Competition - August 21, 2011

Honestly, who doesn’t enjoy a good sandcastle? That’s right, nobody. The Lions Club of Newquay is holding a sandcastle competition that is open to anyone with a sand-sculptor’s hand. Whether you are the Michelangelo of sandcastles, or little Billy filling a pail, you will want to be in attendance. The competition is being held at Towan Beach and kicks off at 14.00.

Newquay Harbour Sport Day 2011 - August 27, 2011

For water sports and more, come down to the Newquay Harbour for a fun-filled afternoon. Sports including paddle-boarding, swimming and sculling races will abound. There will also be local athletes vying for medals and recognition. All are welcome to either watch or take part.
