March into springtime with March events in Newquay! There’s an abundance of activity throughout the month. From a pasty toss to swimming in a water park, March in Newquay is alive with fun and fecundity.

St Piran’s Day at Newquay Zoo ‐ March 5, 2011

As one of Cornwall’s patron saints, St Piran gets attention on March 5, every year. The Newquay Zoo has a Cornish pasty flinging competition at 13.00. A pasty is a unique, crescent‐shaped pastry that generally contains meat and potatoes. Cornish pasties were a typical lunch item carried by the tin miners of Cornwall. A pasty flinging usually involves throwing the pastry at a Cornish flag placed a great distance away. The person who get their pasty closest to the middle of the flag is declared the winner. The pasty flinging event at Newquay Zoo will result in prizes for the furthest throw.

Science Week at Blue Reef Aquarium ‐ March 11 to 20, 2011

The British Science Association celebrates National Science and Engineering Week every year. The purpose behind this is to emphasize the significance that science has on our daily lives. Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium is participating by providing hands‐on activities, designed to edify and educate attendees. There are many exhibits that you will want to experience as you stroll through Newquay’s aquarium, which offers its guests the opportunity to play the part of a marine biologist, albeit for a day.

Jack Bruce in Cornwall ‐ March 19, 2011

If your fanatic zeal for Jack Bruce needs to be met, and you have £22 burning a hole in your pocket, then on March 19, your wish may come true. Just a short jog from Newquay is Falmouth. At Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion, Cream’s former bassist will take to the stage and entertain your socks off. See you there!

Oasis Fun Pools Re‐opening ‐ March 31, 2011

After being closed for the winter season, the opportunity for splishing and slashing is back! Oasis Fun Pools feature both indoor and outdoor pools. In addition, Oasis Fun Pools boast a waterfall, fountains, a river ride and three flumes. The hours of operation are 10.00 to 18.00 daily and all‐day sessions are £10.95 for adults. So if you have the urge to slide down a waterslide or perform a cannon ball, track down your bathing suit and head over to Oasis Fun Pools.
