Events for October 2008

As hot summer nights fade into cool fall days, take yourself to Newquay for some spectacular sites. For a month of mysticism and magic there's no better place to be than Cornwall - home of Merlin the Wizard, some super spooky Druid ruins and of course the giant buried below the island that comes and goes.

Tintagel Castle

This is the birthplace of King Arthur and it's only a day trip away from Newquay. Explore the ruins of the noble castle - which once contained the Knights of the Round Table and may now contain up to three ghosts, who haunt the breathtaking footpaths of the ruins and the castle too.

St Michael's Mount

Once thought to be inhabited by a giant, the tidal island of St Michael's Mount remains as one of the most exhilarating and beautiful places to visit in Cornwall. There's nothing that matches watching the tide come in – stranding you on the island, but beware. Apparently there's a giant trapped just underneath!

Cornwall's Many Standing Stones

About as many legends surround these stones as they do Tintagel Castle. Many are considered to be cursed or have the power to heal, but no matter what you believe - you can't help but feel the presence of the people who stood upon them centuries ago. Make sure you check out the Merry Maidens, the Pipers near Land's End at Boleigh and the Men-An-Tol near Madron - also known as the Devil's Eye.

Shriek Week Trails - October 25 – 31, 2008

These trails allow you to take a walk on the spooky side at Newquay Zoo. Follow paths bound to curl your insides and be prepared to be frightened by all the scary animals. There's some slightly family orientated crafts and story telling too - happening throughout the daytime.

Zoo Boo Party - October 31, 2008

Brace yourself for some scary times on this eve of supernatural skeletons, ghosts and other assorted frightening things! Stay alert as you cover the Zoo in the dark and why not accept a few, challenging missions to earn you points and potentially a prize! There's a competition for the best costume and a barbecue thrown in – as part of your ticket. It runs between 6.30pm and 10pm, the tickets are £14.95 each and it's best to book in advance.
