The Edinburgh Festival is the name given to the collection of festivals taking place in the city from the end of July to the end of August each year, a period during which Edinburgh becomes home to the world's biggest arts festival and more than doubles its normal population. The first of these to start each year is the Jazz & Blues Festival, which runs from late July to early August. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival that runs from early August to the end of the month follows this. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo runs for just over three weeks during the end of August. The Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival usually kick off later in August and continue to around the end of the month.
This year’s Fringe Festival will have one show of particular interest to the backpacking community. St. Christopher’s will be sponsoring The Good, The Bad and The Lonely, which will be running from August 15 th until August 10 th at The Cowgate Central @ Wilkie House. “ The Good, the Bad and the Lonely presents five Australian and New Zealand backpackers travelling Europe, encountering all manner of obstacles – adventures and misadventures – as they leave the complacency of home in search of the wider experiences the world has to offer. Whether it’s finding the love of their lives, missing the train or losing their luggage, what emerges in The Good, the Bad and the Lonely is a humorous journey of truth, discovery and acceptance.” Look out at the performances for a familiar face or bunk bed, as St. Christopher’s Inns will be one of the settings for the show.
