Weird Events in Europe this August
With the summer sun shining and everyone out for some fun we bring you this month’s events for the month of August. From toad festivals, strange music festivals, beard and moustache growing contests, and the world’s biggest food fight, August is a great month both across the UK and abroad.
Tsukuba-san Gama Matsuri: Japan, 3 August
The annual Mount Tsukuba Toad Festival is a unique event held in honour of the many toads (gamo) that have died to be made into toad grease (gama-no-abura). Head to Mount Tsukuba to witness massive toad models being paraded around on sacred palanquins, vendors of toad grease calling out their wares and traditional music and dance performances.

European Beard & Moustache Growing Championships: Italy, 6 August
Join the party at the Baffi e Barbe (beard and moustache) European Championship, held every year on Campo Campidelli in Grottaglie.

King Arthur's Last Battle Re-enactment: Cornwall, England 5-7 August
Doffing their caps to both the Dark Ages and the popularised and colourful Hollywood version of the legend, intrepid warriors recreate the final battle between King Arthur and his illegitimate son, Mordred (where both lost their lives at the other's hand) at Tintagel on the Cornwall coast.

Oulu Music Video Festival & Air Guitar World Championships: Finland, August 24-28
Air guitar is one of the most popular musical pastimes in the world, striking a (power) chord in the hearts of teenage boys and middle-aged men worldwide. For a long time, though, the budding bedroom Hendrix had nowhere to show off his or her favourite licks, runs, and riffs - until the Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu came along.

La Tomatina: Spain, 31 August
