London Events

  • 3-6 February: The Daily Telegraph Destinations Exhibition: The Daily Telegraph presents the largest consumer travel exhibition in the UK at London's Olympia. Destinations brings holidays to life, evoking the sights, sounds and experiences of cultures and countries all over the world.
  • 6-7 February: Green Day: After the release of latest album American Idiot, America's enduring pop-punk heroes, Green Day come to the Carling Apollo Hammersmith in London as part of their current tour.
  • 13-18 February: London Fashion Week: Organised by the British Fashion Council, this important biannual fashion event at the Duke Of York's Headquarters on Kings Road showcases autumn/winter 2006 collections, drawing the glitterati of the fashion media and setting the tone for next year's styles.
  • 22-23 February: Westlife: Unstoppable boy-band Westlife hit Wembley Arena in support of their sixth album, To Be Frank, and as part of The Red Carpet Tour.
  • 25-27 February: The National Wedding Show: Hooray! You and your loved one are tying the knot! But there's a stressful bit: planning the big day. From choosing the venue to planning the honeymoon after the vows have been made, there's a hell of a lot to think about for one of the most important days of your life. Before you freak out, head to the National Wedding Show: it could answer many questions (or confuse you even more).

London Theatre

If you are looking to add a little bit of culture to your life in the new year why not check out two of the hottest theatre productions in London.

Jerry Springer the Opera

Cambridge Theatre, Earlham St, Seven Dials

The premise is simple: the audience finds itself part of the Jerry Springer TV show experience, with the chorus as Jerry's audience, chanting the expected "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" and ever-lewder comments while guests come on to the show to tell their loved ones - in song - their personal secrets. Men in diapers, Jesus and the devil all pop up in this absurd peek on pop culture.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest

Gielgud Theatre, 33, Shaftesbury Ave

With its already infamous history - where the star, Christian Slater, endured chickenpox and the production lost its instigator and original director Guy Masterson - this stage adaptation of Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest lays siege to London's Gielgud Theatre after a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe. With Slater, reprising Jack Nicholson’s role as McMurphy, this popular cultural criticism is as relevant today as it was when it was written decades ago.

Take a Break and Enjoy Bath

With Spring and Summer many months away, why not make a short journey to Bath, one of the most beautiful cities in England. With numerous spas and a wealth of history, the city of Bath, located in Somerset is a great escape from the everyday, and only a short trip from all the major UK cities. With its squares, crescents and terraced town houses, the city was constructed largely during the renaissance that Bath enjoyed in the Georgian era. It was promoted as the ideal retreat from the rigors of London life, and the perfect place for fashionable people to go for the season. Even more than its history, modern Bath is a fun and vibrant city. Ideal for lovers of arts and culture, with many museums, exhibitions, concerts and performances scheduled throughout the year. So escape for a day or a weekend at St. Christopher’s Inns Bath. So escape for a day or a weekend at St. Christopher’s Inns Bath.

This month in Bath

February 26th- March 6th: The annual Bath Literature Festival is held at various venues around the spa town, including the Assembly Rooms, Guildhall, Forum, Green Park Station, Bath Abbey and, about 20 miles south, Wells Cathedral.

Brighton

Two huge concerts at the big attractions in Brighton this month. The NME Awards Tour featuring The Killers, The Futureheads, Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs rolls into Brighton on the 2nd of February and Green Day bring their sell out tour to town on February 5th. Why not crash at St. Christopher’s in Brighton after rocking the night away at these massive shows.

Edinburgh

With Rugby being the centre piece of tourism in Edinburgh for February and Belushi’s in Edinburgh as the best place for before, during, and after the game, those looking for something different can enjoy two concerts by huge international artists and an exhibition of one of contemporary art’s most important artists.

Green Day touring in support of their latest album American Idiot arrive into Glasgow’s SECC on February 10th. R.E.M. are back on tour and arrive with a back catalogue of hits to match anyone, and will be performing at Glasgow’s SECC on February 22nd.

Beginning on February 12 and lasting until 2nd of May the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh presents an exhibition of Andy Warhol Self Portraits as part of its Year of American Modern Art. This is the first time an exhibition has been entirely devoted to the artist's celebrity and his self-portraits, and this is the only UK showing.

Charity Appeal

The immensity of the Tsunami disaster is only just beginning to unravel, and for Hope for Children (HOPE), working with small organisations at the coalface of the tragedy, the situation looks extremely bleak.

While the large agencies continue to fly in blankets, tents and water, HOPE is at this stage concentrating its efforts on assisting children of five years and younger, the most affected age group. We have been providing milk food, feeding bottles, baby food and medical supplies. So much needs to be done.

Our medium and long term aim will be to help in the reconstruction of people’s lives, especially where children are involved. This task is staggering. However, with the support of donations and people on the ground we will make a real difference and rebuild communities, providing hope where it is most needed.

Please show you care if you haven't done so already by pledging a small donation
