Europe's Famous Hostels
So you've packed your bag, sunscreen is topped up and your agenda filled with the sites and sounds of a European summer. From the beaches of Spain to the music of Glastonbury, the beers in Belgium to the pasta in Italy - this summer is going to be one to remember. But, will your memories be of bad service and crowded dorms, dirty bathrooms and unfriendly staff?
First thing I wanted to do when I landed was check out the city and figure out where the heck I was! I hadn't even thought of where I was staying, just as long as I could put my feet up at the end of the day. Two days later and I was still sitting in the hostel bar!! The hostel was by far the best part of my trip, incredible memories.
- David, Australia
Nothing can make or break your trip to any city like a hostel can. More than just a place to lay your head - a hostel can be as memorable as your first visit to the Coliseum or as disappointing as the inflated drink prices in Venice. Any self-respecting traveller knows to go to the experts - other travellers - to avoid a hostel disaster!
Fifteen of Europe's best independent hostels have now been chosen as Europe's Famous Hostels by backpackers and budget travellers as their favourite and most memorable stays on their journeys. Each hostel has been highlighted repeatedly on websites, guidebooks and through word of mouth as must see destinations - as important as the cities themselves:
Probably the best hostel we stayed in. The dorms and bathrooms are clean and spacious, and the Australian staffers were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable on what to do and see, and where the best places to eat were. I'd definitely go there again.
- Erin, St Louis
I recommend this place to everybody and for sure I'll be back again, with more friends with me!
- Crom, Canada
Thanks so much for all your kindness and consistent great service. This is an amazing place that strikes a great balance, hip, fun, cheery, clean, and comfortable.
- Colleen, US
Europe's Famous Hostels are independently owned hostels with owners who recognize that to stay in a hostel is an experience. Selection to be part of Europe's Famous Hostels is based firstly and most importantly on ratings and feedback by travellers, and secondly inspection by industry experts. Admission of each hostel is based on overall high quality in comfort, cleanliness, security, staff, atmosphere and the celebration of the cultural uniqueness of the city/country it represents:
- Amsterdam, Netherlands - Flying Pig Palace
- Bad Gastein, Austria - Euro Youth Hostel
- Barcelona, Spain - Kabul Youth Hostel
- Berlin, Germany - Circus Hostel
- Bruges, Belgium - Bauhaus International Youth Hostel
- Cardiff, Wales - Cardiff Backpacker Hostel
- Corfu, Greece - Pink Palace Hostel
- Dublin, Ireland - Avalon House Hostel
- Edinburgh, Scotland - St. Christopher's Inn
- Interlaken, Switzerland - Balmer's Herberge
- London, England - St. Christopher's Inn
- Munich, Germany - Euro Youth Hostel
- Rome, Italy - Alessandro Palace Hostel
- Salzburg, Austria - Yoho International Youth Hostel
- Vienna, Austria - Wombat's City Hostel
With so much going around Europe this summer travelling on a budget doesn't mean sacrifice! An ignorant receptionist can take away the good vibrations of the Edinburgh Fringe festival in a second; Europe's Famous Hostels make sure this doesn't happen!
Your European Adventure should be one that stories are made of. Much more then just the sites you have seen, memories will be based on the people you meet and the places you stay. Europe's Famous Hostels have been chosen for just that - a place to build a memory. Let your fellow traveller be your guide and drop your bag for a minute in one of these fifteen destinations, it may be a while before you pack to leave!
