Newsletter - September 2005
We’ve been kinda busy!
We may be late this month, but with good reason - Not only have we had a facelift, but we have also opened a hostel in Amsterdam and a hostel in Bruges!
New Hostels in Amsterdam and Bruges
We are very proud to announce the official launch of 2 new St Christopher’s Inns in Amsterdam in Holland and Bruges in Belgium.
St Christopher’s at The Bauhaus
St Christopher's has entered into a partnership with the existing Bauhaus in Bruges. Combining 30 years of experience in the industry, we will give the Bauhaus a new start under the banner “St-Christopher’s at the Bauhaus”. Find out more about this awesome hostel!
St Christopher’s at The Winston
St Christopher's has also entered into a partnership with the existing Winston Hostel in Amsterdam. Boasting around 60 hostel beds and 110 hotel beds, this former 2 star hotel is located in Warmoesstraat, right between the station and the Dam square.
St Christopher’s in Paris
We decided not to stop there! St Christopher's is also proud to announce that we will be opening a purpose-built hostel in Paris in 2007! This newly built hostel will boast nearly 300 beds, an Internet Café, a bar and a club/live music venue - The first purpose-built, independent hostel in Europe!

How to go to Egypt and not see the Pyramids
Get the low-down on Egypt this month from Gen "Super Star" Knowles.
Go to Sharm el Sheik. Look to the right and see nothing but aggressive rocky desert, look to the left and discover the bright blue, fish-filled Red Sea with its coral reefs. Sharm is world renowned as a divers haven and since international flights began to arrive in its small military airport just a few years ago tourism has really taken off.
Booked just five days before leaving there was a rush to get bags packed and entry visas sorted out (£20 and a few hours wait at the Egyptian embassy). We flew in at sunset over magnificent views of the desert strangely reminiscent of Luke Skywalkers home planet.

Travel Book
This is an exciting feature of the “Live Your Life Newsletter”! Every month we will be featuring an extract of a fantastic new book entitled, “Catalyst for Adventure: The true story of best friends travelling through Europe” by Crystal Stanczak.
Catalyst For Adventure: The True Story of Best Friends Travelling Through Europe
At 11:30 pm, without gas to spare, our wee machine had arrived in Stow-on-the-Wold, a shepherding community in the middle of nowhere. It was fascinating to see how this town kept simple living in tact. The buildings had thatched roofs, window signs were handmade, and nothing was open past 9:00pm. We were truly delighted by Stow-on-the-Wold until we realized that we had come too late to check into a hostel.
Summer suggested, “Well, we do have a car. Why don’t we just sleep in here?”
“Yeah, ok, we’ll save ourselves thirty bucks.” I responded.

Recommended European Hostels
Balmer's Herberge in Interlaken, Switzerland
Yes, there’s a reason why Balmer's has been voted the most FUN hostel, in both 2003 & 2004! Even though Interlaken is best known for it's outdoor "adventure activities" such as Skydiving, Canyoning and Rafting (to mention but a few), it has something to offer all travellers, no matter what the budget. For just the pure nature lover there is loads of hiking and biking, or for those that want to relax - pick a field to sit and write in your journal. With it's spectacular views of the Alps, it's quaint buildings covered in flower boxes, or the lakes between which it is situated... every corner you turn is like a picture postcard.

This Month’s Sweaty Jockstrap
Cricket
It looks like Australia’s dominance of the Cricketing World is about to come to an end. With England taking a 2-1 lead at The Oval, surely they can scrape a draw to take back the Sacred Urn. The England Ladies won their equivalent of The Ashes. Yeah! Take that!
Football
The English wish the same could be said about their Soccer Team. The might of Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard et. al. scraped past Wales (Ranked 86th) and then fell to a humiliating defeat to Northern Ireland (Ranked 110th). Oh, how we laugh!
Rugby
As expected, New Zealand took the Tri-Nations as Australia failed to win a single match! The English Domestic Season has just kicked off with London Wasps going for a record equalling 4th title in a row!
Tennis
The British Contingent lasted 2 days of the US Open before all 3 were knocked out. As this is written, Andre Agassi is still on course to be the oldest US Open winner ever!
Athletics
Yeah… Britain can’t run or jump very well! A huge haul of 3 medals
