Music Guide
During the run-up to Christmas each year music, movies, video games - you name it - begins getting released in droves. The anti-consumerist in me says this is shameful. The music-lover in me is excited to see all the new material that comes pouring out. I'm torn. Maybe, I'm the only one with this problem. If so you'll be able to browse these upcoming titles, guilt-free.
Coming to a record store near you this November are:
1. Johnny Cash - The Christmas Collection. 30.10.06
Gotta love it when the dearly departed come back to visit and produce a new record. Well, as it turns out, there's no new material here. It's all the old favourites. If you grew up in a Johnny Cash household, this could very well be a compilation of your childhood. If it's gotta be Christmas Carols, they might as well be sung by the legend Johnny Cash.
2. MeatLoaf - Bat Out of Hell 25th Anniversary Special Edition + DVD. 30.10.06
The ultimate guilty pleasure. This is the one CD that millions of people own, but no one is admitting to. And should your friends come across it, possession is always blamed on a sibling, roommate or very un-cool parent. For the new generation this is a must-have, it's sing-a-long, car stereo-cranking good times. All the old favourites, new shiny cover.
3. Various Artists - Best of Bond…James Bond. 13.11.06
On this music CD you get The James Bond Theme, Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey, Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon, A View to a Kill by Duran Duran, Live and Let Die by Paul McCartheny & Wings, The Living Daylights by A-Ha, You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra, Goldeneye by Tina Turner, Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow, and The World is Not Enough by Garbage. Even looks good to a not-so-Bond-girl.
4. Oasis - Stop the Clocks: The Definitive Collection. 20.11.06
After more than ten years of multi-platinum albums Oasis has come out with their first ever retrospective. All the songs on this collection have been chosen by the bands as what they believe encapsulates their time in the spotlight. This is the music industries version of a get rich quick scheme. Release a best of when the band hasn't got any new material to keep people spending. And at Christmas they'll eat it up.
5. U2 - U218 Singles. 20.11.06
Yet another greatest hits from U2, another compilation with ‘Where the Streets Have No Name,' and ‘One.' Well, at least this time there's 2 all new tracks including ‘The Saints are Coming' with Green Day. If you're a die-hard U2 fan of course you're going to want this. If you just want U2 to die hard, then U218 will probably stay on the shelves.
