E-zine - July 2007
LIVE YOUR LIFE NEWSLETTER
Editor's Note - July 2007:
July is here and once again it's all change. There's a smoking ban in England, the Tour de France has taken a detour to London and your faithful old newsletter has had some much needed cosmetic surgery. To celebrate breaking through the 100,000 subscriber ceiling we've re-branded the publication as an E-zine.I also thought you guys might like to know just how much work goes into this monthly wonder and who puts what where. We usually top 15,000 words of quality content, the information and articles are sent in from all over the globe and we backpack our little butts off to bring you an uncompromised, backpacker resource with real literary integrity.
Inside this edition you can catch up with the best gadgets and money saving tips in the Top Ten, abseil off the Tyne Bridge with the Macular Disease Society, read an exciting new extract from the Paris Lonely Planet and find out how to kick start your metabolism in the ever healthy Backpacker Bites.
There's also the opportunity to win free accommodation in our monthly competitions, find out what the finest publishers are presenting this month in the Top 5 Reads, flashpack around the globe in Beauty Terrorist and see how the Orient Espresso hostel fared when it faced the ethical challenge of going green, with Global Action Plan.
Below you'll find the literary and technical talent who help put this production together and I'm looking to add to this. I want talented writers, photographers and hot new sources for articles, columns and special backpacker features. If you have a smidge of talent, we want to share it with your fellow 99,999 backpackers.
In the mean time be sure to pick up Packed from the Village this month for some special St Christopher's loving and if you can, come along to our brand spanking new St Christophers Inn and Belushi's Bar in Hammersmith.

Write around the world: Travel story
Write FOR A NIGHT : The Real Berliner
Berlin gets some special attention from Abby Lynch this month. Abby checks her Americanisms at the door and scouts out the top five ways to fit in. Expect picnics, shopping, the best out of town locations, beaches and the best places for a little shelter when the sun hasn't got his hat on.
"Summer in Berlin can be a hot and sticky affair. Coming from the Southern US, my immediate reaction once the thermometer spikes and the moist air settles in is to ask where the air conditioner is......

How is it possible that there are no dark circles, no spots and no unsightly hairs after travelling around the world at the speed of light? I suspect some pampering might have been involved. Click through for some treats on the road, the most effective beautifiers and the treatments that make you feel human again when you're a long way from home.

Travel Charities
Helping People with Blindness
Macular disease is one of the biggest causes of blindness in the United Kingdom. That's why when we heard that one hundred people were jumping off the Tyne Bridge in the battle against this, we decided to get involved and give those fearless Geordies a helping, backpacker hand. We went behind the scenes, caught up with the organisers, checked out the science and discovered how you can help – whether it's on the bridge or through your online bank account.
We're here to listen about the charities that matter to you so send us an email submissions@st-christophers.co.uk.
The Interview
Visit Scotland - Tourist Board
When Edinburgh became the object of out backpacking affections there were some burning questions that needed answers. That's why I sat down with Sinead Guerin from Visit Scotland and grilled her about what's fun in the land of Whiskey. This involves a little comedy, the future of Scottish tourism, the all inclusive Edinburgh pass and a whole lot more.
