Events for September 2008

Jessie Heckman

As summer winds down and the kiddies head back to school, Paris transforms into a traveller's dream. Instead of fighting off the hordes of tourists you can relax in true Parisian style and visit historical sites that are only open once a year! You can also take in an exhibition of promising new artists too. Here's what's coming up.

Fete de la Humanite - September 12 to14, 2008

For the politically interested (and French speaking) check out the Fete de la Humanite - an event sponsored by the far left wing. It's guaranteed to include some outrageous speeches and serious political discussions. You'll find it in Parc de La Courneuve.

Journees du Patrimoine - September 20 to 21, 2008

Every year as a national day of recognition to the citizens of France, the French government sets aside two days, when the general public can wander around historical and politically important sites that would otherwise be off limits. This happens across the country but in Paris the must sees include the French President's residence at the Palais d'Elysees and the Senat buildings in the Jardin du Luxembourg. All museums and monuments are free on this day.

Paris Art Exhibitions - September 13 to 31, 2008

This is a great treat if you're an art junkie or you simply have a new found appreciation for art! The end of September has a wide array of exhibitions heading your way. Make sure you check out the exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre which includes everything from sculptures to paintings and photography to film. There's something here for every kind of any art lover.
