Prague in May has it all – blooming trees, sunny days, picnics in the parks and some great festivals that make this month better than ever!

Czech Beer Festival – May 12 to May 28, 2011

The Czech Beer Festival is one of the biggest events in Prague where you can taste more than 70 Czech brands of beer in one of the three tents – tents with with a capacity for 10,000 people! Of course there’s also food and live music, and the beer servers will be wearing traditional Czech costumes. Festival goers usually get dressed up, so use your imagination, wear something funny and make some new friends! The festival is held every day between 12pm and 12am, in a field close to the last station stop on the C line metro – Letnany. Entrance is free!

66th Prague Spring Music Festival – May 12 to June 6, 2011

The Prague Spring Music Festival is the number one festival of classical music in the Czech Republic. It was born in 1946 when Czechoslovakia celebrated the first anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and from here it survived many twists and changes - historically, politically and culturally. To this day it still brings in the best composers and performers from around the world and this year’s highlights include the San Francisco Symphony and their chief conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, not to mention the New York Orchestra and violinist, Lisa Batiashvili. You can get tickets through Ticketpro offices.

Prague Food Festival – May 27 to May 29, 2011

Prague Food Festival is a three day long celebration and a long established tradition. It’s held in the beautiful gardens of Prague Castle and so serves up not only great food, but also great views! This year you can try the best of Czech, French, Belgian, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and vegetarian cuisine. There will also be plenty of wine and beer around to help wash it all down. Tickets are 400 CZK (with 250 CZK returned in the form of food and drink vouchers) and are available through Ticketpro offices.

Fringe Festival Praha – May 27 to June 4, 2011

This year celebrates the 10th birthday of what the Prague Post called: “the famous Edinburgh Festival's naughty grandchild.“ This is set to be a great celebration with nine days of comedy, theatre, music and dance across nine venues in the gorgeous Mala Strana city district. It will showcase the work of companies from across the world and continue a reputation for being a fun, friendly and intimate festival. It’s also way cheaper than its more famous grandparent, with tickets available through Ticketstream. Better yet the Belushi’s bar at Mosaic House will be hosting a Fringe Lunch Series, so if you stop by you could catch one of the Fringe performers previewing their show!

Queens of the Stone Age – May 29, 2011

Finally some rock‘n’roll! Catch the legendary American band lead by the charismatic Josh Homme, at KC Vltavska on May 29, 2011! Tickets are 785 CZK and you can grab them through Ticketpro.
