EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PARIS' CLIMATE

Generally, Paris has a mild climate. Summers in the city are usually pleasant and warm. July is the hottest month of the year with highs of 25 degrees.

Christmas and New Year's Eve in Paris are simply magnificent. January is the coldest time though so bring plenty of thermals if you’re planning a trip for New Years.

In Spring, the blossom is in full bloom and perhaps one of the prettiest times to visit - and let’s not forget Autumn where the tree-lined streets turn orange making for a beautiful backdrop to take photos.

SURVIVAL TIPS

  • Avoid Museums on Monday Be aware that Paris likes to close many museums and restaurants every Monday.
  • Flying from Beauvais Be early for your designated Porte Maillot shuttle. If you miss it, it’ll be €200 for a taxi fare.
  • Street Gamblers At every major site you'll see street gamblers, don’t take a chance with them, you will lose!
  • Metro Tips Travel cheap. Buy a book of 10 tickets (Carnet). Keep your ticket handy as inspectors will check.
  • Taxis Use Uber or at least haggle with local taxis to avoid them ripping you off as a tourist.
  • Master the Museums On the first Sunday of each month, most of Paris’ major museums are free!
  • Butt Out Don’t throw cigarette butts in the street or you could be hit with a €80 on the spot fine.
  • Tipping Tipping is not expected in Paris and your waiter won’t be offended if you leave nothing.
  • Be Cautious Don’t sign the ‘petition’ on children’s clipboards at tourist sights. They’ll demand money afterwards.
  • Carry ID The drinking age in Paris is 18 so always carry ID when buying alcohol and entering clubs.
