10 Reasons Why You Should Stay at St Christopher’s for the DGTL Festival
Music lovers heading to the DGTL Festival in Amsterdam, look no further if you need a bed for the event.
Taking place on Easter weekend (19th - 21st April), the festival is back for another year bringing you the best of underground electronic music at the NDSM Wharf. This is the first massive festival of the year, playing host to a mix of well established artists, up-and-coming DJs and live acts who will be taking to 6 different stages over the festival period. DGTL have said that the opening night on Friday is all about “the warmer side of House music”, whereas Saturday and Sunday serves up the more big house sounds. It’s set to be epic. Check out the full line up here.
If you have tickets and need a comfy bed close to the festival grounds, we’ve got you covered. Here are 10 reasons why you should stay at St Christopher’s At the Winston (our award winning hostel) during the festival for a much needed rest in between the music - or to continue the party after ;)
1) Amazing location, close to festival grounds
St Christopher’s is a quick and easy journey away from the DGTL festival. The festival grounds are based at NDSM Wharf on the other side of the river from the city centre. It was the old industrial area of the city that was once used as a ship building ground, but now the area is used for art and cultural events.
The grounds can be reached by a free ferry that takes you across to the other side of the river in a speedy 10 minutes. St Christopher’s is located just a 5 minute stroll from Centraal station (where you catch the free ferry from), so the journey to the festival is fast and easy.
2) Transport links nearby
If you want to get some sightseeing done whilst in Amsterdam, there are amazing transport links nearby to the hostel. Just walk 5 minutes to Dam Square, 5 minutes to Centraal Station and only a couple of minutes to the Dam tram and bus stop. Plus, many of the city’s main sights and attractions are within walking distance.
3) Free Breakfast
Only if you book direct
There’s nothing worse than a killer hangover. Fill yourself up for the day with a free all you can eat breakfast buffet that takes place every morning, just for our guests. Make sure you book direct to benefit from the free breakfast.
Cheeses, eggs, hams, cereal, toast, juice - it will sort your hangover out and means you can save some euros on food at the festival!
4) 25% off food and drink
Only if you book direct
If you book directly through St Christopher's, you'll benefit from 25% off food and drink in the hostel bar. Serving up badass burgers and American style sides including hot wings and chicken tenders, it’s all the kind of feel-good food you want to be lining your stomach with during a 3 day festival.
5) Longest Happy Hour in Amsterdam
If 25% off drinks isn’t enough, the hostel’s party bar Belushi’s hosts the longest happy hour in the whole of Amsterdam. Pre-drinks anyone? Belushi’s is known for its party atmosphere bringing together a mix of backpackers, students and locals. The perfect place to spend your time before and after the festival. If the weather warms up by then, enjoy the sun in our beer garden.
6) Best place to meet new people
Hostels are best places to meet new people and the atmosphere at the Winston makes it even easier. Before heading to the ferry, have some pre-drinks in the bar. You’ll more than likely end up on your way to the festival with a new group of people who were doing the same thing!
7) Smoking room if you wanna smoke
Our hostel has a cosy and sociable indoor smoking room so you won’t have to sit out in the cold to have a puff. There you’ll find a pool table and a smoker-friendly outdoor terrace attached to it if you do need some fresh air.
8) Cheap (but modern) with Free WiFi
Why fork out loads of money on a hotel, when you can get a clean, comfy bed at a hostel for half the price? You’ll be guaranteed to meet new people and have an awesome time with other festival-goers all while saving your pennies. We have free wifi, clean bed linen made on your arrival and free walking tours. All rooms can be accessed with digital key cards.
If you’re looking for a little extra privacy, the hostel also has some modern private rooms with en suite bathrooms for a little bit more money (still very affordable).
9) Next to the Red Light District
Our hostel is overlooking the Red Light District, in the heart of Amsterdam's nightlife hub. For a real Amsterdam experience in the heart of the city there’s no better place to stay.
10) Reception is 24 hours
The festival finishes pretty late each night, but no need to worry as St Christopher’s has a 24 hour reception meaning there are no curfews. Stay out all night if you need.
