Brunch

Silo Coffee

Tucked away down a cobbled street in the Friedrichshain district, Silo is one of our favourite affordable brunch spots in Berlin. The trendy little cafe serves up proper aussie-style brunch dishes that’ll keep you full for hours and won’t break the bank. Plus, word on the street is the avocado toast is the best in the city… Perfectly oozy poached eggs, spiced sausages, berry pancakes and quality coffee, you know you’re in for a deliciously fresh brunch that’s good for the soul if you manage to grab a spot at Silo on a Sunday morning.

Lunch

Mustafa’s Gemuese Kebab

When the lunchtime hunger strikes, nothing hits the spot more than a Mustafa kebab. Go for the doner kebab, packed full of shaved chicken kebab meat with potatoes, slaw, a crumbly cheese topping and a sauce to bring it all together. It’s a little messy, but once you try one of these you’ll never look back at your post-night out kebab shop again! Berlin’s kebab scene is pretty decent, but Mustafa’s Gemuese has earned its reputation for being the most flavoursome as the best price of just €3.50. Don’t be put off if there’s a hefty queue…

Curry Mitte

On the hunt for the best currywurst in Berlin? You’ll find loads online about who thinks which currywurst shop is best, and really they’re all pretty affordable, but Curry Mitte is one of our top picks. Being right in the city centre, you’d think that prices would be higher than usual however for just €5,90 you can get a proper German pork sausage drenched in curry sauce with fries and a drink. Here, the meat is sourced locally and you can ask for your sauce to be  extra garlicky or have some extra spice for more of a kick.

We also rate Curry 36, Curry 61 and Curry Baude if you’re nearer to these spicy spots.

Dinner

Belushi’s

Smack bang in the city centre, just up the road from Alexanderplatz, Belushi’s do the best burgers in town. The American-style menu served up here makes it one of the tastiest dinner spots in the city, and the prices mean you can get a big, juicy burger with a big side of fries AND a burger for under €15. Apart from burgers, think chicken wings, wraps, snacks and even Belushi’s own currywurst or pork schnitzel. Plus their drinks selection huge! From international beers to local brews, as well as spirits and cocktails (all super affordable) you’re sorted for the night.

Henne

If fried chicken is your thing and you’re looking for Berlin’s best, Henne is calling your name. This sweet German restaurant is one of the more authentic Berlin places on this list, full of locals and decorated in a homely German style. But once you try the chicken you’ll realise why people rave about it. Henne has been frying up their top secret recipe for over 100 years, and it’s still just as succulent now as it’s ever been before. Order the house speciality which costs €9,40 and includes their classic half chicken cooked to juicy perfection with a delicious potato salad on the side. If you fancy a beer, the selection here is really reasonably priced. If this sounds like your kind of place, be sure to book before you get there and if the sun’s shining ask to sit in their beer garden.

Hamy Cafe

When you’re craving a big bowl of delicious Vietnamese pho, Hamy Cafe will not disappoint. Near Kreuzberg, this simple, small Vietnamese eatery is a real local favourite for being insanely delicious and unbelievably cheap. We’re talking €4,90 for an enormous bowl of pho, fried noodles or chicken curry that tastes as authentic as if you were in the home country itself.
