In the heart of it

Three minutes from Plaça de Catalunya on foot

Four Metro lines put every corner of Barcelona city within fifteen minutes from Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona beach at Barceloneta, the Gothic Quarter’s mediaeval lanes, and Gaudí’s Sagrada Família are all straightforward from the front door of St Christopher’s Inn Barcelona.

The full picture

From the moment you arrive at Plaça de Catalunya, the city is yours and we have been helping travellers make the most of it for over thirty years.

The Gothic Quarter starts at your door

Plaça de Catalunya is the point from which Barcelona city organises itself: four Metro lines, regional trains, and the airport bus all leave from here. St Christopher’s Inn Barcelona is three minutes away on foot, with the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, and the Eixample grid all within easy walking distance.

A city built for long evenings

Barcelona operates on a schedule most northern European cities would find baffling: dinner at 9pm is early, bars fill after midnight, and the best nights rarely begin before 1am. Belushi’s Barcelona, open daily from 11am to 2am, fits that rhythm without asking you to change yours.

More city, less spent

The best hostels in barcelona know the city well enough to tell you where not to go. La Boqueria is overpriced and overrun; the Mercat de l’Abaceria in Gràcia is neither. Add a free welcome drink and 25% off food when you book direct with St Christopher’s Inn Barcelona, and the budget stretches further than expected.

Your questions

Travellers’ frequently asked questions about Barcelona.

Real answers to the questions travellers actually ask about Barcelona, from the best area to stay in Barcelona to day trips from Barcelona and everything in between. Written by people who know the city firsthand.

What is the best way to get around Barcelona?

The Metro is the backbone of the city and a T-Casual card (ten trips, around €12) is the smartest first purchase you can make. That said, Barcelona is one of the most walkable cities in Europe and a hire bike handles almost everything else.

What are the best day trips from Barcelona?

Montserrat is an hour by train and genuinely worth a full morning. Sitges is forty minutes south and far quieter than Barcelona beach in high season. If you have more time, the Costa Brava coastline north of the city is one of the most underrated day trips from Barcelona going.

Is Barcelona safe for solo travellers?

Very much so, though pickpocketing is common and worth taking seriously. Las Ramblas and busy Metro stops are where it happens most. A cross-body bag, phone in a front pocket, and basic awareness covers it. The city itself is welcoming and well-lit, and solo travel here is straightforward.

When is the best time to visit Barcelona?

May to June and September to October give you the best of Barcelona without the peak summer crowds. July and August are very hot and the city is at its most congested. Winter is mild enough to visit comfortably and significantly cheaper for accommodation.

Where should I eat in Barcelona without getting ripped off?

Avoid anywhere on Las Ramblas with a laminated photo menu. El Born and Gràcia are where the better neighbourhood restaurants are. The Raval is worth exploring for lunch. And if you have booked direct with St Christopher’s Inn Barcelona, Belushi’s Barcelona is downstairs with 25% off food throughout your stay.
