You’ve arrived!

Check in on Fore Street, drop your bags, and step straight onto the terrace. Towan Bay opens up below you, sand and Atlantic stretching to the headland. That view is yours for the whole stay.

Sunset, sorted

Dinner is a flight of stairs away. You take your welcome drink onto the deck, the sunset does its thing, and the strangers around the table stop being strangers before the pub crawl leaves.

Your surf school is in the building

You wake to a sea view and walk straight into your surf lesson. Escape Surf School operates from the hostel building, so your wetsuit, board and instructor are waiting before you’ve fully woken up.

Eleven beaches, one afternoon

With lunch sorted at a 25% discount, you spend the afternoon on foot: the harbour, the headland, Fistral Beach where the competitions happen. Newquay’s whole coastline starts at the doorstep.

Back where you started

Same time, same terrace, different traveller. You’ve surfed, walked the coast and filled a dorm with new mates. Tonight you’re the one telling arrivals where to go tomorrow.

Welcome

Your first 24 hours in Newquay

Most people come to Newquay and barely scratch the surface. You are staying, which means you get the version of Cornwall that the day-trippers never reach. Here is what the next 24 hours look like from your base on Fore Street.

Your Local.
Wherever you’re from. Drinks, live music, good people

Most hostels do not have a bar. Belushi’s Newquay does, and it is the kind of place that makes a stay feel like more than just a place to sleep. Live music, weekly quiz nights, open mic nights, themed events, and sports on the screens. Head outside to the beer garden, beach huts, sea views, and a pizza van, perfect for sunny days.

Your questions

Travellers’ frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you arrive. From surf lessons to parking, beach distances to booking benefits. Six honest answers to the questions guests ask us most.

Do I need experience to book a surf lesson at St Christopher’s Newquay?

No experience needed. The on-site surf school welcomes complete beginners and improvers alike. Equipment is provided, and being positioned on the cliff top above Towan Beach means you are in the water within minutes of your lesson starting.

What is the best time of year to visit Newquay?

Newquay works year round. Summer brings the warmest weather and the biggest crowds, particularly July and August. Autumn is when serious surfers arrive, the swell picks up and the beaches clear out. Spring offers good weather, quieter streets, and well-priced stays.

How far is St Christopher’s Newquay from the beach?

Towan Beach is a five-minute walk from the hostel on the cliff top. Fistral Beach is ten minutes on foot. With eleven beaches stretching over seven miles of Cornish coastline nearby, you will not run out of options.

Is there parking at St Christopher’s Newquay?

No on-site parking, but Tregunnel Car Park nearby offers long-stay spaces at £6.30 to £7.00 per 24 hours. If you are coming by train, Newquay station is a twelve-minute walk from the hostel.

What is the difference between a dorm and a private room at St Christopher’s?

Dorms are shared rooms (mixed or female-only) with made beds, secure lockers, and either en suite or shared bathroom facilities. Private rooms give you your own space entirely. Double and twin private rooms come with en suite bathrooms and sea views over Towan Bay.

Why should I book direct rather than through a booking site?

When you book direct you get the lowest rate we offer, a free welcome drink on arrival, free cancellation, and 25% off food at Belushi’s for your entire stay. It takes the same amount of time as booking elsewhere and gives you significantly more.
