Bags down first

Reception is open at every hour, so arrive whenever your flight or train lands. Rooms are ready from 3pm and the luggage room takes bags before and after that for a small fee. Ask about lockers while you are there: the six and ten bed dorms take your own padlock.

The tour leaves here

A free walking tour sets off from the lounge twice a day, morning and afternoon, which makes the first one easy. You get the city’s shape, the names of the buildings you have already walked past and a group of people to eat with afterwards.

Everything is close

Strøget starts 500 metres away and runs for over a kilometre. Christiansborg Palace and the National Museum are both a few minutes on foot, Tivoli Gardens sits behind the Central Station and Nyhavn is a twenty minute walk. There is no reason to work out the metro on day one.

Back for happy hour

The lounge fills up before the evening does. There is a games room with pool and table football, happy hour runs daily and the bar is one of the more reasonably priced in a city that is not. Beer pong, cocktail nights and a night for solo travellers all run weekly.

Downunder until late

The basement venue carries live music, DJ sets and a cinema and chill out corner for when standing up stops appealing. It trades until 5am. Bring earplugs if you have booked upstairs, or take a private capsule with a door of its own and sleep through it.

Welcome

Your first 24 hours at Copenhagen Downtown

You will arrive with a list. Copenhagen is small enough that you will get through most of it, and the people in the lounge will add things you had not heard of. Here is how a first 24 hours tends to go.

OPEN EVERY NIGHT, TO GUESTS AND LOCALS ALIKE

Live music, beer pong and a cinema.

What separates the bar here from most of central Copenhagen is the price of a round and the mix of people paying for it. Regulars from the neighbourhood drink alongside guests from more than forty countries a month, so the room has its own momentum before anyone organises anything. Live music, beer pong and cocktail nights run weekly, and the Downunder venue below takes over when the ground floor winds down.

Your questions

Travellers’ frequently asked questions

Copenhagen Downtown runs to its own policies and a few differ from the St Christopher’s properties, starting with a 10am check out. The answers below cover what changes before you book.

What time is check in and check out at Copenhagen Downtown?

Check in opens at 3pm and check out is by 10am, so plan the last morning around it. Reception is staffed around the clock, so arrivals at any hour are fine, and the luggage room holds bags before check in and after check out for a small fee.

Do the rooms have their own bathroom?

Twenty five rooms have a shower and toilet inside. The other fifty use bathrooms in the hallway. Every bed comes with linen, key card access, a personal reading light, a hand basin and a mirror, with free hairdryer hire at reception. Filter for a private bathroom at the booking stage if it matters to you.

What is a DreamBoks capsule?

A DreamBoks is an enclosed sleep capsule with a door that locks, sitting between a dorm bed and a private room. Copenhagen Downtown has single capsules and double capsules for two people, on upper and lower levels. Nobody under 18 can book a capsule or a dorm bed, only a private room with an adult guardian.

Is Copenhagen Downtown a good hostel for solo travellers?

Guests from more than forty countries stay each month by the property’s own count, and a free walking tour leaves from the lounge twice a day, which handles the introductions. A solo travellers night runs weekly alongside beer pong and cocktail nights. The lounge, pool table and table football sit in one space rather than spread across floors.

How do I get to Copenhagen Downtown from the airport?

Trains run from Copenhagen Airport to Copenhagen Central Station, and Vandkunsten 5 is a ten minute walk from there. City Hall Square is five minutes away on foot and Strøget starts 500 metres from the door. Reception never closes, so a late landing is not a problem.
