St Christopher’s Liverpool Street

With easy access to the London Underground from Liverpool Street and Moorgate, you can reach all of London’s famous sights without hassle. But if you’d rather explore above ground, St Paul’s Cathedral and Old Spitalfields Market are on our doorstep. Wander alongside the River Thames to meet Beefeaters at the Tower, then hop on a cruise to get a different perspective on London’s iconic architecture. After dark, join the party at The Flying Horse, our classic on-site London pub. As is English tradition, the Flying Horse is a social space for all; pubs are all about making connections with locals, travellers and expats. Another English tradition, after a few pints, is to go out for a curry, and our party hostel in London is right by Brick Lane, London’s curry hotspot.

You’ve arrived!

There is a particular feeling that hits when you step out onto Wilson Street and Shoreditch opens up in front of you: street art, independent shops, and the kind of energy that is difficult to explain until you are standing in it. Drop your bags in the lockers, head downstairs to The Flying Horse, and collect your free welcome drink. It is time to get out into the city.

First adventures

Walk out the front door and turn left. Brick Lane is ten minutes on foot, the bagel shops are open around the clock and the curry houses are the real thing. Keep going and you hit Old Spitalfields Market, one of the best in London for food, vintage, and people-watching. Shoreditch is two minutes in the other direction. You will not run out of things to do.

A night at The Flying Horse

The Flying Horse is not a hotel bar. It is a genuine neighbourhood pub in a building that dates to 1812, and it draws locals as reliably as it draws guests. Order something from the menu, claim a table, and see who you end up talking to. Evenings here tend to run longer than planned. That is not a warning.

Morning two

Head downstairs to The Flying Horse for breakfast, add it to your booking when you reserve for the best value, and plan the day over a proper meal. Today the city opens up further. The Barbican is ten minutes on foot. The Tower of London is a twenty-minute walk along the river. The Elizabeth line from Liverpool Street will have you in the West End in under ten minutes. London does not run out.

What comes next

London does not run out. On Sunday mornings, Columbia Road Flower Market is fifteen minutes on foot and one of the most worthwhile early starts you will make. Dennis Severs’ House on Folgate Street, five minutes from the front door, is a candlelit 18th-century townhouse frozen in time and unlike anything else in the city. The Sky Garden at the top of the Walkie Talkie building is free, fifteen minutes on foot, and has views across the whole of London, book a table for lunch and make an afternoon of it.

Welcome

Your first 24 hours at Liverpool Street

You are two minutes from Moorgate, five minutes from Liverpool Street station, and one street from Shoreditch. Check in from 3pm, drop your bags, and the city is yours. Everything else follows naturally.

The Flying Horse

A proper London pub thats been there since 1812

The Flying Horse pub on Wilson Street has been a neighbourhood local since 1812. The building is Grade II listed, four storeys of original Victorian architecture on the corner of Sun Street. Inside, it is a proper pub: real food, well-kept beer, and a room that fills up with a mix of guests and locals most evenings.

Your questions

Travellers’ frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you arrive. From the neighbourhood and transport links to what you get when you book direct, the answers are here. If there is something we have not covered, the team at reception are on hand around the clock.

Is Liverpool Street a good location for sightseeing?

It is one of the better-located hostels in London for covering the city on foot and by tube. Liverpool Street station is five minutes away, giving you direct access to the Elizabeth line, Central line, and national rail services, including the Stansted Express. Shoreditch, Spitalfields Market, and Brick Lane are all within walking distance. The Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the South Bank are under thirty minutes from the front door.

What’s the atmosphere like?

Social and genuine. The Flying Horse downstairs draws a mix of guests and locals most evenings, which means the atmosphere is not manufactured; it just happens. Pub quiz on Mondays, live sport throughout the week, and happy hour every day from 5pm to 8pm. The rooms are well-designed and quiet enough to sleep in. The balance between social and private is one of the things this property does well.

Are St Christopher’s hostels safe and well connected?

St Christopher’s Inn Liverpool Street has key card access throughout, secure lockers in every room, and 24-hour reception. The neighbourhood is central, well-lit, and busy enough at most hours that solo travellers consistently rate it as one of the more comfortable hostels in London for safety.

What time can I check in and out?

Check-in opens at 3pm. Check-out is by 11am. If you arrive early, luggage storage is available so you can leave your bags and get out into the city straight away. If you have a late departure, the same applies: store your bags and make the most of the day before you leave.

What is included when I book direct?

Booking direct through the St Christopher’s website gets you the best rate online, guaranteed. On top of that you get a free welcome drink on arrival, redeemable at The Flying Horse, and 25% off food throughout your stay. Free cancellation options are also available on direct bookings. You will not get these benefits through Hostelworld, Booking.com, or any other third-party site.
