Looking to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle this year? One of the easiest ways to decrease your carbon footprint is to get your clothes second-hand. With Paris being the fashion capital of the world, you’ll probably want to do a spot of shopping while you’re there, but why not check out the sustainable shopping scene and trendy thrift shops instead of hitting the city’s huge (and expensive) department stores? Not only are thrift shops cheaper on a backpacker’s wallet, but it’s also more ethical and the best way to add some unique vintage additions to your wardrobe. These are the best thrift shops in Paris for sustainable fashion…

Visiting Paris sometime soon? Check out for fun & affordable accommodation in the heart of the city

1. Free’P’Star

One of our favourite thrift shops in Paris is Free’p’star on Rue de la Verrerie. A hit with the young locals in the city, this place is great for affordable vintage fashion. We particularly love the variety of different jackets here; from faux fur, vintage denim, leather jackets and cord, you’re guaranteed to find a gem in here. Just a four minute walk from the Hotel de Ville metro, it’s also pretty easy to get to! You may even bag yourself a designer coat for €30 or less! While this place can get busy, most of the stuff is in good condition - you just have to search through the rails.

Nearest Metro: Hotel de Ville

2. Kilo Shop

Just a short walk away from Free’P’Star is Kilo Shop. This well-known thrift shop is an international chain and can be found in other European cities like Amsterdam and London. Kilo Shop is a great place to go shopping if you’re passionate about a sustainable lifestyle. Why? The concept is all about paying for the weight you buy. Instead of pricing the clothes individually, at Kilo Shop you weigh your goods and that determines the price. Pretty niche! That means you can get some really good bargains on lightweight clothes. There are a lot of vintage clothes on offer here: think bold prints, hipster shirts and cool accessories.

There are other Kilo Shop branches in Paris which can be found on Boulevard Montmartre and in the Saint-Germain neighbourhood.

Nearest Metro: Hotel de Ville

3. Chine Machine

Chine Machine boasts a stylish second-hand offering in two Paris locations, one on Rue de Martyrs and the other on Rue des Petites Écuries. Here, you can buy, sell and trade vintage clothing, the perfect place to give your old things a new home. Featuring unique, boho pieces as well as funky jackets and pants, we recommend this place for bold fashion lovers. The shop itself is well organised, contemporary and tidy - which is quite refreshing for a thrift shop, making the experience all the better!

Nearest Metro: Château d'Eau

4. Kiliwatch Paris

This minimalist, industrial building houses Kiliwatch Paris, a sophisticated Parisian thrift shop in the city’s 2nd arrondissement. Right in the heart of Paris, come here to shop second-hand men and women’s streetwear, which is more refined and upscale compared to your usual thrift shops. While the prices here are a little more expensive, you can get some really good bargains on designer items such as Burberry trench coats and cool vintage finds.

Nearest Metro: Étienne Marcel

5. Vintage 77

Last but not least, head to the hot pink shop at 77 Rue de Ménilmontant for a charming boutique thrift shop experience. Highly rated and popular with locals and tourists alike, Vintage 77 is a great place to shop for sustainable fashion if you’re in the 20th arrondissement. The items are beautifully displayed and there are some really lovely pieces to buy from scarves, dresses, bags and rare vintage clothes. We recommend walking to Parc de Belleville afterwards for some fresh air and some nice scenery! It’s just a 5 minute walk.

Nearest Metro: Ménilmontant
