Tucked away downstairs in the Covent Garden Market Building is a pie-lover’s paradise. Battersea Pie Station has nailed it; the filling to crust ratio on its premium pies is perfect and the prices are easy on the wallet at just £6-£6.50 per pie. Creamy mashed potato, flaky pastry and mouth-watering fillings, it’s no wonder why people come back for a Battersea pie time and time again for their comfort-food fix.

There’s a reason the recipe at M. Manze hasn’t changed for over a century, and with hungry people queueing outside the door almost daily, it must mean some jolly good pies are being cooked up in this establishment. M. Manze opened its doors in 1902, keeping to its traditional menu ever since, and we love them for it.
Get a taste of what a London pie shop was like back in the Victorian era and choose to have your dreamy pastry combo served with jellied or stewed eels – might sound nasty, but it was the only way to eat them back in the day and they’re actually delicious! If you want to sit and enjoy your meal in the shop, make sure you get there EEEELy (get it?) or you’ll be queuing around the corner.

Proudly standing as one of the oldest pie and mash shops in London is Goddards at Greenwich. This no-nonsense English eatery is a legend amongst the city’s pie hotspots. It serves up only the finest quality classics with traditional jellied or stewed eels and lashings of gravy or traditional liquor to create the heavenly taste this place is famous for. Goddards is the perfect spot for a pit stop before visiting all Greenwich has to offer, and it’ll only set you back around £4 for a filling lunch of pie AND mash! Are we really still in London?!
4 PIEBURY CORNER

Starting out as a bit of fun, selling homemade pies to Arsenal fans who passed its front garden en route to the Emirates Stadium, this British pie bar has turned into one of London’s best. Piebury Corner is famous for serving up some seriously hearty shortcrust pastry pies stuffed with its award-winning fillings (and trophy-winning names – each pie is named after an Arsenal footy legend!). Not only are its pies some of the best, but they serve up a mean scotch egg too. Head here for a lively atmosphere accompanied by good music and the pie of your life. Its veggie and vegan pie options are great as well.
5 YOUNG VEGANS PIE AND MASH SHOP

Nestled right at the back of Camden Markets’ courtyard you’ll find a little vegan haven of crumbly goodness. The Young Vegan Pie and Mash Shop is 100% vegan however it could easily convert the most adamant meat-eater at the taste of its Seitan and ale pie. Seriously though, you’d only know this place is vegan from the name; its pies tastes so good that meat-lovers would never have realised! Go for the meal deal which includes a pie, mash, a drink and a peanut butter cookie for just £10 – that’s a bargain if you’re asking us.

6 THE WINDMILL

After a strenuous day of spending cash in Oxford Circus, head for a hearty meal at The Windmill in Mayfair, just a 3 minute walk from the bustling Regents Street.
While this joint is more on the pricey side, with pies costing between £14-15, they are well worth the money and each served with a generous helping of mash. There are eight different delicious pies to choose from, but we recommend the award-winning steak and kidney pie. This pie won a shiny award in Great British Pie Awards 2017 – more of a reason not to miss out.
The pies are handmade daily, and in the warmer winter days you can even enjoy a meat-packed pie on the roof terrace. The Windmill even has its very own Pie Club (if you wanna join?) where you’ll get invited to pie club events and delicious pie tasting sessions.
Other than just pies, the diverse menu offers traditional pub classics all made from British ingredients.
7 PUTNEY PIES

Every Tuesday at Putney Pies you can enjoy a pie and a pint for just £13! As you can guess from the name, this pie shop is located in South London’s Putney and it specialises in more gourmet pies, but at affordable prices. ALL freshly cooked to order, pies don’t get more fresh. Whether you want your pie to be served with triple cooked chips, or mash and gravy, the menu caters to all pie lovers’ requirements…

Mother Mash is bang centre in London’s Soho, perhaps our favourite part of London where there’s always something fun going on. And that’s what Mother Mash is all about – having fun. The concept? What goes in the pie, is all down to you (so you can customise your pie just how you like it). This is how it works. There are 3 steps: choose mash, choose pie (or sausage), choose a gravy – and all for £9.95.
The mash is the main winner here since you can choose from all kinds of the creamy potato. Cheesy mash, bubble and squeak, sweet potato mash and more – it’s your call. There is also a great selection of different gravy to choose from, too! Mix n’ matching pies has never been yummier.
9 ARMENTS PIE AND MASH

The charm surrounding Arments is that it’s still the same as it was 100 years ago, using secret recipes handed down from generations before. If you’re after a traditional British pie, get yourself here. One of its most traditional accompaniments to the pie is jellied or stewed eels (sounds gross, but people love it).
A classic mash n’ pie dish from Arments comes with a green liquor made from parsley, rather than gravy. Worth a try. It’s great!
10 MAUREEN’S
6 Market Square, Poplar, London E14 6AH
Maureen’s is a seriously delicious pie shop just 3 stops away from West Ham’s stadium, perfect for some pre-match footie grub. Simple, cheap and tasty. Serving up authentic pie and mash, with a traditional parsley liquor Maureen is definitely worthy of one of the best pie shops in London title, with people saying the pies here are the best they’ve ever tasted.
The bagels here are also noteworthy; especially the salt beef bagel.
