Need a hostel in Berlin?

DUDU

Japanese

Word on the street is that this joint is George Clooney’s go-to spot in Berlin for a sushi fix. Dudu is one of our favourite Japanese restaurants in Berlin because it ticks all 3 boxes. Incredible sushi, check. Great atmosphere, check. Friendly staff. Check. What more could you want? Dudu serves up sophisticated sushi dishes packed with flavour, as well as hot Japanese food, beautifully presented on big plates. The ingredients are all high quality which you’ll soon realise once you’ve tasted the sashimi. This swanky place is always rammed with Berlin’s cool, young locals who hang out here so make sure to book ahead. We recommend getting the dumplings to start; they are one mouthful of pure delight. For the main course, you can’t go wrong with the Crunchy Dudu Sushi Roll.

Considering this place is popular with celebs, prices are reasonable and the portions are large. It’s true what people say; Berlin is cheaper than other big European cities like London and Paris. Try and get a table in the enchanting outdoor heated seating area where you enter through some mysterious black drapes.

YAM YAM

Korean

Just a 10 minute walk from Alexanderplatz square, you may stumble upon Yam Yam. Perfect for lunch or dinner, this bright and airy spot serves up Korean wraps, noodles, ramen, kimchee, dumplings, rice bowls and vegetarian dishes. People say this is their favourite Korean restaurant in Berlin and we wouldn’t disagree. This place represents fresh, authentic Korean food that will take your tastebuds on a flavour explosion. We recommend ordering the steamed shrimp dumplings to start and the beef Bibimbap (pictured) for main. The spicy chicken ramyun is also a crowd pleaser.

While this is a fairly small restaurant, it’s the perfect sanctuary from the busy streets to fill yourself up with hot Korean soup on a cold day. And when the sun is shining in the summer, there’s outdoor seating where you can slurp your noodles.

MONSIEUR VUONG

Vietnamese

When you want Pho and you want it right away (we know the feeling), then pay a trip to Monsieur Vuong. Just around the corner from Berlin’s iconic TV tower, this hidden gem is popular with locals and Vietnamese residents of the German capital. Specialising in the exciting street food flavours from Saigon, this family run restaurant was set up in Berlin after the owners started missing the flavours of their hometown Vietnam. The pho here is flavoursome and more-ish, so we can’t get enough of it. Inside, there’s a laid back atmosphere, perfect for a chilled out lunch or dinner.

Catch the daily specials on the chalkboards on the walls. The menu changes every two days so there’s always something new to try.

MAKATO

Japanese

This modern Japanese restaurant will sort your ramen cravings out. Makato is all about fresh homemade noodles which soak up all the deliciously flavoured Japanese broth. You can get a big bowl of tasty ramen from here for less than 10 euros so it’s great value for money. The food here is also very authentic and heart warming. Order the perfectly crisp vegetable gyoza to start and you won’t be disappointed. We also love the exterior of the restaurant where Japanese lanterns are lit in the evening with red bench style seating below for people who want to eat outside.

Perfect for a quick lunch, Makato is located just a short walk from Alexanderplatz so you can fill yourself up, rest your legs and then continue with your sightseeing of Berlin. This little restaurant has friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

DISTRICT MOT

Vietnamese

Vietnamese Street food with a modern twist. District Mot is a favourite amongst Berlin’s young crowd not only because of the food, but for the overall experience. District Mot is all about the fun (even the menu) and you’ll realise that before you even walk through the door. The outside of the restaurant is blooming with colourful flowers and then you’re welcomed by a fun, quirky interior as you get inside.

On the menu, you’ll find hearty bao burgers, BBQ hot pots, pho, dim sum and much much more. The BBQ caramel ribs and sticky chicken wings are a winner - and great for sharing. The bench style seating in reminiscent of what you’d find in Vietnam eateries but with a contemporary/hippy twist. For dessert, we recommend ordering the coconut panna cotta with mango and lemongrass. So refreshing.

SISAKET

Thai

Sisaket, named after a northern province in Thailand, is a fantastic Thai restaurant in the heart of Berlin. Serving up authentic pad thai, curries and melt-in-the-mouth fish dishes, this is the perfect casual dinner spot if you’re craving Thai food. The portions here are hearty so combined with its reasonable prices, we’re not surprised Sisaket is always buzzing with hungry customers. We recommend ordering a selection of dishes and sharing them so you can get a taste of everything. The Tom Yum soup is packed with a punch. The chicken Massamam curry is also dreamy.

Inside, there’s a calming atmosphere where soothing Thai music plays in the background. Sisaket is not trying to be anything else, just a really good Thai restaurant. What more could you want?
